With South Africa being the home of diversity, the Urban Ethnic Market is hosting everyone in celebration of the Heritage Day. The event will see culinary expert “Prince Koko Bassey” show off his expertise and give people the chance to also show off their cooking skills at the cooking contest.

The event will be taking place on the 29th September 2018. Join hundreds of food lovers for a day of the cooking contest, food tasting, pop & win competition. Kids can also get creative and take part in fun activities at the event as well.

We chatted to a few people about their favorite African dishes and they were happy to them with us.

“Pap and mogodu with veggies because it’s very healthy and fully traditional,” said Adetola Olubajo.

“Fried Rice is by far the best for me dished with fried chicken. It gives me a wonderful taste with well-cooked fish with pepper soup as a starter,” said Kholofelo Morena. “Egusi soup with papa is wonderful while one can have Nigerian pap with a lot of other dishes that can be served with pap, draw soup and okra,” he said.

“My favorite South African food is Samp, I love it because it is one of the meals that reminds me of home, it’s also healthy as well,” Tosin Bankole said.

“It’s really tasty and I love how it tastes similar to South African stir-fry rice just spicier and I love spice,” Nosipho Mnyaka said.

A Nigerian journalist suggested the heritage day event could help promote tourism and social cohesion because it offers a unique taste.
