Remembering Professor Jelili Adebisi Omotola-(SAN) the 7th Vice-Chancellor of The University of Lagos.
The 17th of January, 2022 will mark the fifth anniversary of the re-naming of the Multi-purpose Hall to Jelili Adebisi Omotola Hall, University of Lagos. The 5000 seater hall was built by Professor Omotola(SAN) during his time as the Vice-Chancellor of the University. Recalling what his late father told him at the time when he built the hall, Barrister Adetunji Omotola says’ my Dad told me he built the hall because he was very sad that many students had to write their exams while standing due to the lack of infrastructure to cope with the ever-expanding student population”.
The Jelili Adebisi Omotola Hall is the venue for the Convocation of the University and it is also used for many events and can be sub-divided into three halls namely A, B, and C. The hall was also the venue for the launch of Prof.Jelili Omotola’s compendium of his scholarly works on March 29, 2011. The compendium was compiled by Barrister Adetunji Omotola and launched on the fifth anniversary of the passing of Professor Jelil Omotola (SAN).
Professor Omotola was an expert in Land Law. He won prizes in English Land Law and Criminal Law at the University of London in 1966. He published many books on Land Law and the Land Use Act of 1978. He was twice Dean of Faculty of Law, UNILAG and also Dean of the Faculty of Law, Ogun State, University. He was a life bencher, British Council Fellow, Fulbright Scholar, Distinguished Visitor at Witswatersrand University, and Honorary Research Fellow. He was also an Amicus Curiae at the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
