Fifteen years ago on the 16th of May Kayode Saxokay Ogunkoya landed in South Africa at the Johannesburg O R Tambo airport and since he says that it has been grace that has kept him going from one level to another.
“Looking back to how God has rebranded me , I give him all the praises. Secondly this year marks 15years on stage as Saxokay AfroJazz Band! We started from a little beginning to a household name,” says a proud Saxokay.
Saxokay recounts his first gigs before he arrived in the country.
“My first gig with my band was for a friend from church of the Lord’s wedding prior to my traveling. We were initially playing as Kakaki4Christ in early 2002/3 (which was a gospel band)”
Saxokay’s first band gig in South Africa was a duo of himself and Alex D Samuel using keyboard beats. The musician says in his latest EP it will be about a few of his journeys so far.
“We shall take you through a few of our journeys so far in the next 35/6 days as well as release my EP by end of this month.”
The charismatic musician has nothing but gratitude for his fans, friends and clients.
“To all our fans, friends, and clients, a million thanks to you all.
To all members of the band, past and present we appreciate you for all your dedication.
To all the technical, media, and management team, God bless you all.”
