FOREIGN NATIONALS FLEE AFTER XENOPHOBIC VIOLENCE

JOHANNESBURG – Many foreign nationals have requested to be taken back to their countries after violence against foreigners flared up around the country.

Over 30 foreign nationals, housed in a centre in Ekurhuleni, have applied to leave South Africa.

“We have accommodated the people here from the communities after the attacks, the lootings that took place last week. We are basically rendering humanitarian aids to them”, said Ekurhuleni Disaster Management spokesperson, William Ntladi.

The Department of Social Development in Ekurhuleni says arrangements to get those who want to leave are underway with country representatives.
