Tensions high over undocumented immigrant business owners in Soweto

JOHANNESBURG – Tensions are high in Diepkloof where community members say they are embarking on a serious clean-up programme.

Protesters want undocumented, immigrant business owners, to be removed from the area.

Sjambok wielding residents have vowed to forcibly remove people if nothing is done.

Residents say government failed to curb illegal immigration and allege that foreign nationals have been given preferential employment opportunities.

They say the township economy needs to be cleaned up and that the influx of drugs and the protection of the youth needs to be prioritised.
