The members of the national executive committee of AYIDSA paid a courtesy visit to the newly appointed Ambassador to the Nigeria High Commission in Pretoria on Thursday 12th of August 2021, led by their president Dr. Olusola Agbeniyi
The meeting with His Excellency Muhammad Haruna Manta was attended by the AYIDSA president, were the Vice president, Prof Adedayo Yusuf, Welfare affairs secretary, Elder Dare Olusan, and Vice-chairman Hall of paladins, Prof Sunday Ojo .
It was a successful meeting that lasted about one and half hours.
Various issues concerning Nigerians welfare in South Africa were discussed :
1, The current hotel quarantine charges for Nigerians in South Africa visiting Nigeria.
2, Difficulties facing by the senior citizens who are pensioners in going for biometric in Abuja before collecting the pensions.
The high commissioner was advised to motivate the appropriate authorities to relieve these two burdens. AYIDSA suggested that biometrics can be done in South Africa via OIC or related offices.
The high commissioner makes clear on the hotel quarantine charges that it was from the tourism sector and not really from the government. In other words, a means of business for some Nigerians is the hotel business at home. However, he promised to take the necessary action.
3, Issue of proper documentation via a database of Nigerians in South Africa was also discussed. This according to the High Commissioner, is his priority as it will be of immense benefit to Nigerians residing in South Africa.
4, The issue of insecurity at home was not left behind. It was discussed thoroughly.
The newly appointed high commissioner promised to work with all the relevant stakeholders to find a solution to all the issues raised. He also encouraged Nigerians in South Africa to be good citizens. Good representatives of Nigeria.
The vice-chairman, hall of paladins, Prof Ojo thank the newly appointed envoy on behalf of AYIDSA and encouraged him to acts on all the issues discussed.
