The Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in South Africa has received, with regret, the sad news of the killing of another Nigerian in the hands of the South African Police Offers.

The unfortunate incident occured at Hamburg, in Roodepoort, Johannesburg, South Africa, on 9 April 2018, at 12h00. An identified police officer from Krugersdorp flying squad reportedly shot Mr. ThankGod Okoro on the head and he died at the spot. Mr. Okoro hailed from Enugu State, Nigeria. The Consul General has been abreast of issues surrounding the urder and has since dispatched senior officers from the consulate to have firsthand information of the matter.

The Consulate General of Nigeria in South Africa condemns in strong terms this barbaric act and call on the South African relevant authorities to intervene and put an end to this savagery that has become an irritant in the existing relations between Nigeria and South Africa. Human life is sacred and should be protected at all times. We therefore, call for the apprehension and prosecution of the culprits. We believe the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) will be thorough in its investigation to ensure that justice is done.

While we seek justice for the deceased and members of his family, we call for calm among our nationals.
