Three suspects arrested firearms and ammunitions recovered

GAUTENG – Three suspects link to several bank robberies were arrested by Tshwane District Trio Task Team and Lyttelton SAPS this afternoon, 13 February 2020, when police foiled a bank-following robbery.

Information about a planned bank-following robbery led the police initially at Irene Mall where suspects were spotted this morning. Members were placed in strategic positions on the lookout, after information received that suspects are going to commit Bank robberies in Centurion. A successful implementation of operation plan was executed. Members managed to spot the suspects’ vehicle driving direction towards the Reds Mall, Rooihuiskraal. The suspects’ vehicle tested positive, fitted with false registration number, during a stop-and-search‚ while police recovered a firearm‚ magazine and ammunition.

The suspects are linked to several crimes, that include cases reported at Meyerton, Monder, Boksburg and all the suspects are from Tembisa.

The suspects will appear before the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Friday to face charges of conspiracy to commit a robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm‚ magazine and ammunition. More charges to be added.

Tshwane District Commissioner, Major General Tommy Mthombeni commended members for their swift implementation of activation plan that resulted in the arrest of three suspects. He thanked various law enforcement agencies for foiling a potentially violent robbery.
