TIME FOR THE NIGERIA MISSIONS IN SOUTH AFRICA TO ACT OVER PASTOR TIM OMOTOSO’S CASE-AYIDSA

The Asspciation of Yoruba in diaspora visit Mrs Omtosho in Durban on 24 December 2017

One of the key objectives of the association of Yorubas in Diaspora South Africa is to support and defend individuals and collective interest of Yorubas residing in South Africa.

This was according to the association Vice president Dr Olusola Agbeniyi as he paid a courtesy and solidarity visit on behalf of AYIDSA to the wife of detained Durban based Nigerian televangelist,Pastor Tim Omotoso.

DR Sola Agbeniyi had a private meeting with Mrs Omotoso on the 24 the December at the Umhlali, Durban residence of Omotoshos.

According to AYIDSA Vice-President, Continuing detention of Pastor Omotoso without getting head Way in his bail application has raised a suspicion on Political undertone.

It is time the Nigeria missions take a proactive approach and ask their South African counterparts the motive behind the legal drama.

In may 2017, the special adviser to the president of Nigeria on Diaspora affairs , Hon Abike Dabiri Erewa facilitated a meeting comprising the then acting high commissioner, Leadership of AYIDSA and Pastor Omotoso legal team and family on the role of the mission.

The mission then has been monitoring the proceedings. The consul General was at Port Elizabeth (PE) court at a time during one of his appearances . The CG was in Durban last week also to follow up with the legal team. Despite all these, it is saddened that he has not been considered granted bail. We therefore appeal to the new high commissioner to engage with the South Africa Government over this matter.

Today it is Pastor Tim Omotoso, tomorrow it can be any other Nigerian in South Africa. The next court appearance is 29th January 2018.

AYIDSA shall work with other Nigerian groups to ensure justice is done appropriately. What we are saying is that principles of justice should be applied with no elements of politics. Mrs Omotoso thanks AYIDSA , Nigeria Consulate General and other interest groups for their love and care since the April 2017 when the man of God has been arrested in a commando style at PE airport .
